We’re are two queer women, living on Wadawurrung country (Burrumbeet, Victoria, near Ballarat), growing food with our hands, and with as little fossil fuel as we can manage. We grow small batches from seed that we’ve mostly collected ourselves. We eat a lot of what we grow. Some we swap with neighbours, the rest we sell or preserve.

Tam grew up in the bush on an off-grid property, learning all the ‘old-ways’ of life. A mum, and manager in a food business for two decades, she studied horticulture during lockdown and didn’t look back. She loves propagating unusual species, pottering in her garden, and spending time with her family and animals.
Alana previously worked in the arts and events industry. After surviving breast cancer in her twenties, she felt a calling back to her family’s farming background and retrained in horticulture. She values knowing how to pickle, dry and roast whatever is harvested.

The Farm

We grow on a small loaned plot at Sunnybank, a family-owned, regenerative farm in Burrumbeet, just outside Ballarat. The farm produces free-range eggs and pasture raised beef & lamb. In the western corner was a disused polytunnel and small garden plot, which was generously offered to us to use. We are grateful to be there are long as we are able.
