We grow food because it feels like something worth doing.

From a small garden on a borrowed patch of land, we grow vegetables the slow way, by hand, and pickle or dry any excess.

Underground Pantry was founded by two horticulturalists with a preference for slow living. We garden in collaboration with Sunnybank Farm in Burrumbeet, near Ballarat, Victoria.

We’re driven by soil health, and being more connected to our village, to our ancestors, to moon & seasons. We believe that eating locally grown produce, picked and packaged by humans, should be more common than it is.

The brief:

  • Local food with low food miles
  • Seasonal eating & climate-suitable vegetables and fruit
  • A diverse range of plants to reduce pest pressures
  • Pickling, drying, preserving what isn’t sold fresh
  • Building soil health and biodiversity
  • Reduce food waste. No soggy, bagged spinach at the bottom of the crisper!
  • Leaning-in to the weird and wonderful

Find Us

We sell our produce at local markets. You can see the upcoming list on our “Find Us” page

The best way to keep up to date about where we’ll be (and what’s coming out of the garden) is to follow us on Instagram

Mud Map

A bi-monthly zine available *free* at the Sunnybank Farm gate, or find a scanned copy online here.

“Scrappy notes, garden scribbles, poems and plans, from two vege growers who have beef with the system.”

Aprons

We made aprons. They’re helping fund the farm. They’re sturdy, made entirely from thrifted fabric, and stitched with care.

If you would like to buy one, they’re in the shop. Every sale helps us grow more local food.
